On 22 August 1485, Richard met the Lancastrian forces of Henry Tudor at the Battle of Bosworth Field. During the battle Richard was abandoned by Lord Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby, Sir William Stanley, and Henry Percy, 4th Earl of Northumberland.
The switching of sides by the Stanleys severely depleted the strength of Richard's army and had a material effect on the outcome of the battle. Accounts note that Richard fought bravely and ably during the battle, unhorsing a well-known champion, killing Henry's standard bearer and nearly reaching Henry himself before being finally surrounded and killed.
Tradition holds that his final words were "treason ,treason, treason, treason.

He was shot by crossbow bolt laying siege to a castle in France in 1199 by a common man. The bolt stuck inside Richard; it would not come out when his men tried to pull it out, so Richard died from the infection and was buried at Fontrevault abbey next to his father.
he got shot in an arrow just benieth his shoulder and he got infected and suffered for 3 days. the doctor messed the operation up. so he died slowely.
Whilst walking around the castle on the 25th March 1199 he was shot by an arrow. The arrow entered into the gap between his left scapula and his neck. Arrows were often fired around the castle and weren't given that much attention. The King tried to pull the arrow out in the privacy of his own tent but soon enough a "Butcher" (A medically untrained mediaeval doctor) arrived. The "Butcher" botched up the job pulling the arrow out and mangled Richards arm in the process. The wound understandably got infected and in days had turned Gangrenous. Meanwhile the shooter was found. A little boy claimed he had shot the King on purpose because the king had killed the boys father and his two older brothers. The boy was given the death sentence but as the King was lying on his death bed he pardoned the boy saying as he did so, "Live on, and by my bounty behold the light of day". Then the boy was sent away with a hundred shillings. Afterwards Richard set his affairs in order and left his crown to his brother John, and his jewels to his nephew Otto. Richard passed away in his mothers arms on the 6th April 1199.
