Perhaps because it was the first undisguised and conventional conflict of the Free World and Communism fighting each other by proxy. Personally, I would date the beginning of the Cold War earlier to the Berlin Airlift, but some might date it even earlier to the Greek Civil War which began before World War 2 was concluded. Simultaneously with the Korean War, France fought Communist forces in Southeast Asia, and Great Britain fought them in Malaysia, but they did so under their own flags as if they were colonial rebelions. The sixteen nations who fought against North Korea and China in the Korean War did so under the United Nations flag, an event made possible only because the USSR was boycotting the UN at the time.
Because the US showed the USSR and other communist nations that the US meant business! Secondly, the communists did not gain their objective; they were stopped cold in their tracks at the 38th parallel.
That's were communist and free world technology clashed (jet verses jet combat as one example).
Because it was pushed by Soviet Russia and Red China - they wanted North Korea to invade, believing the West was not strong enough to respond.

The Battle of Gettysburg is often referred to as 'The High Water Mark of the Confederacy'.
The name Mark is just the same thing in Korean. The Korean language doesn't really translate English names into Korean. This is how you write it: 마크 pronounced Ma-ke
