The way it is explained in the Yoshi's Island games is that the stork took Mario and Luigi to their parents' house in the Mushroom Kingdom. So, he and Luigi were born there.
The odd thing is that in Yoshi's island, Mario and Luigi are twins, whereas in other games it's said that Luigi is Mario's younger brother.
They are plumbers that get sucked into a bathtub or toilet when plunging it. Just watch the Super Mario bros. super show and in the cartoon intro song it will show this. PS: make sure you watch the second intro in each show.

∙ 13y agotheir Landlord was a construction company owner named Mario Segale. The story I heard was they got behind in their rent, he was nice about it so they named it after him. Other stories say that they thought he looked like their character.
