Medina literally means in Arabic "The city", Medina had its old name of "Yasrab" but when Prophet (PBUH) migratd to Yasrab it became popular with the name of Medina-tun-Nabi which means the "City of Prophet (PBUH)" and later on it became renowned with that very name.
