Nero's was overthrown for numerous reasons. Squandering the imperial wealth by building the "Golden House" in the centre of Rome, alienating Roman commanders, his scandalous private life, killing Romans and taking their land... he wasn't a very good guy. We'd call him psychotic. His reign ended when he fled the city and the Romans named someone else Emperor. He was sentenced to death but he killed himself before they got to him
It was tragic , he was paranoid , and had lost what good counsel there was {like Seneca , his once teacher & advisor} Nero was surrounded by ambitious ruthless men , who were not afraid of him , , ,
He made some very bad decisions , some argue that his empire ended , when the fire in Rome started , one which quickly got out of control . The fool Nero failed to recognise how much in grief Romans were , the land on which the burnt houses stood , Nero offered that land up to anyone,he sought to build a palace,lived the life of emperor whilst Romans were crying & desolate.
Then his biggest blunder was that when he got wind of his decline in popularity , he wanted to create a diversion, so he started scapegoating a sect of people called the "Christians" you may have heard of them .
That was a bad move , because it's like now say we are in a recession , and the President blames the catholics , even Romans could see through it . Anyhow , this pigs ear of a Roman emperor carried on his brash style of rule for 14 years , until the Romans , egged on by the senate , revolted against Nero.
He than ran , dressing in a gown with a hood to hide himself , he found refuge in some friends house , but he knew it was only a matter of time before they found him , so he committed suicide crying in grief , saying something like "O what an artist dies in me" or words to that effect , because Romans , they're all Italians , you know.
Nero's rule came to an end in 68 AD CE. He became emperor at the early age of 16, when he succeeded Claudius. His rule over Rome became controversial. And the reasons he caused dissatisfaction were numerous, historians cite many examples of this and here is a brief summary:
A. He was not interested in Rome's military and never visited the legions in provinces;
B. He spent unusual amounts of time playing the role of an actor and chariot racer;
C. Nero was unable to solve the provincial problems caused by Claudius;
D. Nero spent far too much time in Greece and seemed to prefer Hellenistic culture over Rome's;
E. The last straw was his failure to control insurrections in the provinces; and
F. Finally the Senate declared Nero to be an enemy of the State; and
G. Nero fully understood what dire consequences faced him due to the Senate, so this unstable emperor committed suicide in June of 68 AD CE.
Nero came to power by being the adopted son and designated heir of the emperor Claudius. That's the legal aspect of his ascension. However it is said that Claudius was about to change his will and designate his biological son as heir. Before he could do this he mysteriously died. It is said that Nero's mother poisoned Claudius in order to get her son into power and rule through him.
Nero came into power by the influence of his mother, who married the emperor Claudius. She got Claudius to adopt Nero, even though Claudius had a son of his own. When Claudius showed signs of regretting the adoption, it is alleged that Agrippina (Nero's mother) poisoned him. Nero was the last descendant of Augustus to rule. He was the great, great grandson of Augustus.
He died. Tiberius was elderly and there is a story that he seemed to have died, but then recovered. After this episode it is said that Caligula (his heir) smothered him. However this is a story that may not have any truth in it as the ancient writers would seize on any event to make the hated Caligula look bad.

Nero became powerful because he was a Roman emperor. That was a position of power in itself. He got to that position through the conniving of his mother.
Nero came to power in 37 AD CE and ruled the Roman empire until his death in 68 AD CE. A day after the death of the emperor Claudius, the young 16 year old youth of the Julian line of emperors was taken to the palace by Agrippina and Burrus. The will of Claudius was never read. Agrippina and Burrus approached the Praetorian Guards and promised the soldiers a significant amount of money as a bribe if they supported Nero as the new emperor. This was done and Nero became the emperor. He was the great grand son of Augustus. Nero's birth name, as a side note, was Lucius Domititus Ahenobarbus. He took the names of Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus.
By the time of Nero the senate was nothing but a rubber stamp for the emperor's wishes. They were terrified that Nero (or any emperor in power) would charge them with a crime, usually treason, and confiscate their property and wealth with the exile that went along with the confiscations. However, once they ere convinced that Nero was out an Galba was in, the attitude changed. They rallied against Nero and passed a death sentence on him, in which he was to be flogged to death.
Only a trained psychiatrist can give an opinion as to Nero's mental stability and there weren't any around in Nero's time. However even though some of his actions seem "crazy" to us, given the time in which he lived and the tremendous amount of power he had, a rational explanation can be made for just about all of them.
Nero was in power for 14 years.
