When you think about it, this is kind of a silly question. How does language create and effect on an audience at any time? Well, what someone speaks makes us understand something about their feelings, their intents, their thoughts, and so on. We have a window into their world.

Of course the people in a play are not real people, but we enjoy plays because we forget about that for a moment and try to think of them as if they were real. A play which features people in the throes of violent emotions and facing unusually difficult situations is more interesting. Powerful language makes it clearer to the audience what is going on with them at the time.

Act 3 Scene 1 is full of these visceral and powerful lines: "a plague on both your houses", "either you or I or both must go with him", "O, I am Fortune's Fool!"

How is shakespeare a good playwright?

Shakespeare is a good playwright because people continue to enjoy watching his plays over 400 years after they were written. The reasons that his plays continue to be enjoyable are that they have plots centring around universal problems and themes: retirement, teen love, courage in battle, growing up and making choices, the eternal triangle of love and so on. Shakespeare did not write these plots but he chose them with care and focussed on their universal themes. Shakespeare was also the first dramatist to create characters who were internally consistent, who did what they did because they were in some way motivated to do it. But most important of all, Shakespeare has his characters speak in the most amazing words, in a language full of unforgettable imagery, wordplay and vocabulary.
