Saint Patrick, an upper class Roman Briton, was captured age 15 on his father's estate by raiders and brought to Ireland where he was sold as a slave. There is historical proof for this in two documents written in Latin by Patrick himself. He spent six years herding sheep as a slave and then managed to escape, eventually returning back home. He had listened to visions telling him to escape.
