He took a 3 leafed clover and said that each life represented one of the parts of God. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. That basically convinced the natives of Ireland to become Christians.

St. Patrick converted much of Ireland to Christianity from paganism.
He converted most of Ireland's pagans (to Christianity) and destroyed as many places that held unchristian significance as he could. He tended to have churches build on the previous religion's holy grounds if possible. This was a great service to the church (but not to the people living there) and he is rewarded with sainthood. People celebrate and honor St. Patrick on Saint Patrick's Day.
