How did Telluride Colorado get its name?

There are two stories. The town's name was originally Columbia but the Post Office asked that it be changed to avoid confusion with another Columbia, so "Telluride" was chosen in reference to gold telluride minerals that occur in most of Colorado. Interestingly, though, telluride minerals aren't found in the vicinity of Telluride itself!

The second story is that in Wild West days, "to-hell-you-ride" described the difficulties traveling to the area.
