because the captain and the owner were stupid and prideful and the owner asked the captain to increase the speed of the ship so they could get to new york quicker and make headlines of being faster and yet the captain gets an ice warning and still orders more speed so when they approach the iceberg they were going so fast that they didn't have enough time to slow down and turn to avoid the iceberg there for they hit it causing the disaster and also they cursed the ship from the beginning by saying oh GOD HIMSELF COULD NOT SINK THIS SHIP well he proved them wrong now didn't he.
