King William I, also known as William the Conqueror, is usually said to have died from injuries he received as a result of falling from his horse, although some sources say that he died as a result of illness.
in 1087 William was fighting to capture a town in France. when his horse threw him violently against the front of his saddle and he got seriously injured. a few days later, weeping and begging god to forgive him for all the blood he had shed, he died!
He was killed by his own horse's saddle.
Norman saddles had very high front pommels and rear cantles of wood covered with leather, intended to help keep a knight firmly in his seat. William's horse reared up suddenly and the front section of the saddle crushed his intestines and stomach, so that he died a painful and slow death.
