Americans and french won the battle of Yorktown
The french joined forces with the Americans in the battle of Yorktown. This is the most likely reason for the battle ending in surrender.
In Yorktown the Americans encountered the British by land while help from France came by sea.
Yorktown's location on a peninsula was a tremendous aid to the American cause as it sought to defeat Cornwallis and his army in 1781. Having pinned down the British in the peninsula, and with no mass-escape possible due to the presence of the French fleet that patrolled the deep waters nearby, the Americans forced Cornwallis to fight or to surrender -- and without hope of being resupplied, as there were no land- or sea-routes available that were not contested.

It was won by the Americans (with the help of the French Navy) and was the end of the American Revolution.

The fact that Yorktown was located on a river, enabled the French navy (warships) to prevent British escape by sea. If it had been further inland, the area might not have been as well explored as the river, and therefore making it a lot harder for General Washington to plan a trap. Also, being by a river eliminates an escape by land in one direction, leaving only three directions to be guarded. General Cornwallis was in the center of Yorktown so they surrounded his troops, so Cornwallis finally surrendered after 2 weeks.
With a little French help, the colonists were able to beat the British in the final battle of the Revolutionary War. This battle took place in Yorktown, Virginia.
Absolute Location and Relative Location is important it is because it telling you EXACTLY the location it is at.
They helped by sending a fleet of navy ships during the Battle of Yorktown.
the reason why it is very important for a near by location is because you might see the near by location then you will see that place but that is only true only90% of the time
