Pterodactylus was small and lightly built, thus it wasn't well adapted to fight in self defense. However, they could have easily flown away from predators as long as they weren't taken completely by surprise.

Pterosaurs were relatively lightly built and thus not well designed to fight in self defense. However, they were excellent at flying and thus would have been able to escape most danger by flying away.
