Good Ol' Edward Teach had his head popped off by gravity because he was hung.
He was cought by the gov. and he was beheaded and (his head was cut off) and placed on a pole in Hampton Roads,Virginia. George.
He isn't buried. He was killed at sea during a battle with Lieutenant Robert Maynard who was sent after Blackbeard by the governor of Virginia. His body was decapitated and the body was thrown overboard. The head was tied to the bowsprit when Maynards crew headed back to shore. Legend has it that the headless body of Blackbeard swam around the ship three times before it sank. This all took place in Okracoke Inlet off of North Carolina.
Edward Teach, otherwise known as Blackbeard, called Bath, North Carolina his home. He sailed the ship called the Queen Anne's Revenge. Blackbeard held the city of Charleston hostage in May of 1718. He later temporarily stopped being a pirate and retired to Bath with his 14th wife. He returned to pirating ways in November and was captured by Lieutenant Robert Maynard. Maynard cut off Blackbeard's head and hung it from the bow of his ship.

The governor of Virginia, Alexander Spotswood, finally took drasitic actions against the pirate captain, Blackbeard, who so terrorized the coast. Spotswood sent out Leutenant Maynard to take down Blackbeard once and for all. Spotswood and his crew caught Blackbeard off guard on the morning of November 22, 1718. The pirate captain and his crew believe they were safe and undiscovered and had been drinking the night before. They were still drunk, hungover, and exhausted the next moring when the privateers approached them. This was ultimately their downfall. The pirates, who were more confident than they should have been at the time, accidentally let Maynards's crew get the best of them and they were boarded. The two crews engaged in hand-to-hand combat in one of the most romantic, idealized on-board pirate fights in history. Blackbeard received (according to the Historie of the Pyrates by Charles Johnson) exactly 20 blade wounds and 5 shots before his finally fell dead, Maynard having fired the final shot. Maynard cut of the head of the fallen pirate and hung it from the boltsprit, then tossed the body overboard, and he was hanged, and they cut of the head.
