How did impressionism get its name?

Several French painters in the 19th century decided to paint in a new way-- not realistically, making every detail true-to-life, but rather focusing on their impression of the subject. Claude Monet's piece "Impression, soleil levant" (Impression, sunrise) is the root of the term Impressionism.
