I know one way that slaves used to store food was in items called sub-floor pits, which are basically holes in the ground. This would keep food cooler and slaves would also put it in there so it wouldn't get stolen. If multiple families of slaves lived in one area they would have several sub-floor pits. Slaves usually who where everyones sub-floor pit was and if they saw someone going into someone elses they knew they were stealing from them. Slaves often kept other valuable goods there and ritual items.

Slaves? Who said anything about slaves?
.
A more sophisticated version of the pit was the Ice House, which was a typically cylindrical building sunk into the ground. The floor was extended downwards in conical form, with a drain to a soakaway at the bottom. The sub-surface part was filled with ice from local ponds during the Winter, and perishable foods stacked on that, with a covering of straw for extra insulation. Provided sufficient ice was used, it would keep food cold right through the Summer.

Foods could also be preserved in salt, vinegar or (if fruit & veg.) by conversion to pickles etc.
People in the past preserved food through methods like salting, drying, smoking, pickling, and fermenting. These techniques helped extend the shelf life of perishable foods without the need for refrigeration.
Drying and salting were two typical food preservation methods.
They usually ended up drying the food so it couldn't rot from moisture. usually by smoking it. Or coverin git in salt. Fish, beef, and meats were left in barrals of salt
Some common foods that were preserved 400 years ago include salted meats, fermented vegetables, dried fruits, honey, vinegar, and wines. These preservation methods helped people store and consume food over long periods of time before the advent of refrigeration.
The earliest evidence found of Neanderthals was around 350 thousand years old. Therefore they must have become a fully-evolved species by between 400 and 350 thousand years ago. Neanderthals died out 24 thousand years ago. So overall: 350 to 24,000 years ago.
Homo sapiens first appeared around 300,000 years ago in Africa. This species is believed to have evolved from earlier hominids and is the only surviving species of the genus Homo.
It's currently impossible to say exactly how old modern man really is, but there's evidence for dates as far back as 400, 000 years. Most scientists agree on a much earlier date of 200, 000 years but recent discoveries in a cave in Israel point to much older. www.abc.net.au/am/content/2010/s3103039.htm This is the address to an article about the ancient remains and tools found in the cave.

Life 400-500 years ago was characterized by limited technology, lack of modern conveniences, and shorter life expectancy. Society was largely agrarian, with most people living in rural areas and relying on farming for food. Social structure was rigid, with hierarchies based on birth and occupation. Access to education and healthcare was limited, and factors like disease and war could significantly impact daily life.
