The ages of the rocks become older the farther the way they are from the ridges. The closer they are the younger it is. This leaves evidence to the seafloor spreading theory.
Near fault lines, it is there that rocks are created by the rubbing or colliding of the tectonic plates. Rocks could also be made by volcanoes via the cooling of magma and lava. The closer to the fault line you are the newer the rock and the farther away you get the older the rock becomes.
Stratigraphic layers can be used to determine the age of a fossil in a simple manner. The layers towards the top of an outcrop are younger (Law of Superposition and Law of Original Horizontality) and the layers near the bottom are older. If a fossil is found in a lower layer then that fossil is older than any fossils found in the higher up layers.

Scientists can discover the relative age of two objects by counting the number of craters on their surfaces. The longer an object has been in space, the more craters it should have. Comparing the number of craters on two objects in space will determine which is older.
By determing the age of rock samples obtained by drilling in the sea floor!:)

It goes farther as you get older (I'm assuming you are young since you are worried about something as meaningless as how far it goes). Once you are older, it goes farther the longer you go without ejaculating.
