Well it didn't actually originate from England. Earliest records show a form of Football (Soccer) being played by Chinese Soldiers as early as 206 B.C. It was used to elevate the fitness levels of their soldiers in preparation for war. Many countries played one form of Football or another and it wasn't until the middle 1800's that a group of gentlemen in England first documented rules and guidelines that became the modern game of Football.
