On one of Jacques Cartier early voyages in the 1500's to the North American continent and upon seeing the vast waterway into which he was sailing, he asked a priest that was on board "what Saints holiday was closest to the day of this discovery"? The priest replied The Feast Of Saint Lawrence (a martyred priest from the 1100's). Cartier so named the waterway Saint Lawrence.

because the settlers named it st lawrence because a saint named lawrence was the only preist there so they named it st. lawreance
