The Caribbean Sea, along with parts of the Pacific Ocean, was targeted in the late 1800s and early 1900s to help out with US naval bases and foreign economic markets. This is evidenced by the U.S. involvement in the Spanish-American War in 1898, which resulted in U.S. control over Cuba and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean, and the Philippines and Guam in the Pacific.
Steamboat transportation on trans-Appalachian rivers met with great enthusiasm. Steamboats quickly succeeded rafts, flatboats, and keelboats as the main vehicle for river travel. (Keelboats continued to be used in the upper reaches of tributary streams.) As steamboats evolved, they were built with shallower drafts, so they could operate in as little as three feet of water. Enormous above water, they could carry hundreds of tons of freight and dozens of passengers. Towns along the rivers benefited greatly from the economic exchange provided by steamboats. Cincinnati, Ohio, for example, grew from a small settlement in 1770 to the sixth largest city in the country in 1840 on the strength of river travel. A common scene was the loading and unloading of furniture, farm machinery, bales of cotton, and bulk agricultural products at the town wharf.

There aren't that many laws that were intended to help farmers, but the most prevalent one has to be daylight savings. The clocks are adjusted twice yearly to help farmers cope with early morning, late evening harvests.Newlands Reclamation Act

Slash-and-burn agriculture initially helps by clearing land and providing nutrients from burned vegetation. However, over time, it can deplete the soil of nutrients and lead to soil erosion, which may require farmers to move to new areas. Sustainable practices like crop rotation and soil conservation are more effective for maintaining soil fertility in the long term.
Slash and burn agriculture involves cutting down and burning trees to clear land for farming. While it initially provides fertility from the ash, the soil can quickly become depleted of nutrients and susceptible to erosion. This method is unsustainable in the long run and can lead to environmental degradation.

It increased the amount of crops a farmer could plant.
Some of the hardships that farmers had to face were railroads charging excessive prices for farmers in the West to ship/store crops than those in the East, the price of crops was decreasing, and farmers had to mortgage their land to buy more property, which the banks would foreclose. Does this help?
