the andes mountains were formed by a continental collision
The Andes were formed due to compressional (or squashing stress) due to the presence of convergent plate boundary just off the western coast of the continent of South America. Here the oceanic crust of the Nazca plate is being forced against the continental crust which forms the continent of South America. The collision causes stress to build up which in turn causes deformation and uplift of the continental crust forming fold mountains (in this case the Andes).
Meanwhile the denser oceanic crust is forced under the continental crust back into the mantle. This process is known as subduction and generates magma, which rises towards the surface forming volcanoes which in turn contribute to mountain building.
The Andes mountains formed about 138 million years ago to 65 million years ago during the Cretaceous period. The Andes formed when the Pacific crustal plate began to slowly slide beneath the South American plate, uplifting and folding the sedimentary rocks that comprise the Andes.
The plates whose collision is uplifting the Andes Mountains are the South
American plate and the Nazca plate. The Nazca plate extends eastwards
from the East Pacific Rise, a constructive plate boundary at which new
ocean floor is being formed. The Nazca plate is moving eastwards from the
East Pacific Rise. The South American plate is moving westward from the
Mid Atlantic Ridge. Where these two plates meet the Nazca plate is being
subducted beneath the South American plate.
It was formed when south America collided with the Nazca tectonic plate! no martians did not form it!
are u sure cuz i swore i saw them i sitting at the beach one day and saw them
Well i dont realy know but part of it could have probably been made from the collison of the South American plate and the Pacific plate.
the andes mountains were formed by a continental collision
Yes, the Andes Mountain was formed by folding.
The Andes Mountain Chain is formed as a result of a convergent plate boundary, the collision of the South American Plate with the Nazca Plate.
They were all formed at convergent boundaries
They were all formed at convergent boundaries
They were all formed at convergent boundaries
They were formed by deposition and by convergent boundaries
No, it is formed by South America's geography, primarily by the Andes Mountains.
The Andes Mountains were formed through subduction of the oceanic plate underneath the South American plate.
by tectonic plates colliding
You can find the Andes Mountains on the west coast of South America. It is about 4,300 miles long and it is the largest Continental Mountain Range.
The Andes mountains and the islands of Japan are both formed by subduction zones which was caused by volcanoes. The Himalayas were formed by convergent plate boundaries but no subduction zone. Instead the plates collided and there was uplift causing the mountains.
