Building castles helped William gain control of England because they stopped Rebellions, gave homes to his knights(which he had promised them) and intimidated the English. I'm writing an essay on it for my homework becasue we've been learning about it for the past 8 weeks.
Hope this helps

=When the Saxons came to England to invade, the English would run up into the castle and stay there (It was always on a very steep hill and people would throw down ladders so the villagers could climb up, then they would pull the ladder up so the Saxons couldn't get there), until the main army came and defeated the enemy.=
William did rule England but if a war broke he wouldn't succeed and would end up DEAD OR WELL BATTERED! he was rubbish with a sword and didn't know how to win a battle! nobody ever liked him and everyone thought he was a coward!

William's castle helped keep the bad people like his opponents, people who he had captured and put in his dungeon's in.
The wall and moat around his castle was a way of keeping the bad people in and a way of getting only a small majority of people out.
There was only one way out, so this stop many people entering his castle. The Castle had a small man made hill in the middle. On the top of this hill was a smaller castle, the traditional looking one... this is where he slept.
Surrounding the hill inside the fort was a small farm, this is where he grew crops, to help the people survive if another King's army put them under siege.
I HOPE THIS HELPS!
everyone wanted a place to live so he gave them a place to live and they kept him in power
Building castles helped William the Conqueror look powerful. This helped William take control by basically showing the people of Britain who's boss! It stopped rebellions and intimidated the people of Britain to almost make them scared of him! Hope this helped xo

King William is also known as William the Conqueror. He took control of the country in 1066 and ruled until 1087.
Henry de Beaumont built the first Warwick Castle out of wood on the orders of William the Conqueror in 1068 as part of a chain of castles to control newly-conquered England.
Medieval lords built castles for themselves, families, staff and to provide a secure haven in a time of need such as a seige\attack by an enemy. They eventually became large enough to hold an entire small community in a war.
