The mummification process was 70 days long. There were 4 priests; one was dressed as the god, Anubis. The inner organs were removed; the brain was removed through the nose with a special hook. The liver, the stomach, lungs, and intestines were removed through a cut on the left side of the body. The only organ left in the body was the heart. They put the organs in jars and put a special kind of salt on them to preserve it. The body was washed in oils and spices. The body was covered in natron. Natron dried the body's fluids. It took 40 days for the body to dry. After the 40 days makeup was applied to the body. This process took 15 days. The body was decorated with jewelry and was wrapped in linen strips. The face was then painted. Finally the mummy was placed into the coffin and the prepared for the funeral.
