Conquest and war for the most part, and the development of economic and administrative systems.

A warlord called Pachacuti around the 15th century started the rise of the Inca Empire. Pachacuti created a governmental system called 'Tahuantinsuyu'. After his death in 1471, his son Tupac Inca Yupanqui, continued the expanion of the Empire. At its height the Incan empire encompassed 300,000 square miles and had an estimated 6 - 12 million subjects.

The Inca Empire ended with the death of the last emporer, Atahualpa in 1532 when the conquistadore Pizarro executed him.
