The Normans travelled by boat to the coast of England and at first were unopposed because Harold Godwinson was off fighting in the North while the Normans had landed on the coast in the south.

When Harold travelled down to the south, most of his men had either died or left him-because it was harvesting time- making it easier for the Normans to invade.
