As far as i know it didnt have any effect in any way.
I read somewhere that the massacre was a blow to the gang (?) that had been attacked and by the fear it inspired, tipped the power scale in favor of Capone. By today's standards less than ten men hardly qualifies as a massacre. One can imagine though, in a dense neighborhood, on a sub zero Febraury morning several men dressed as cops and others in plain clothes get out of a police car, then, a few minutes later, some guys you see every day who work out of the garage next door are laying in a pool of blood. One can be sure that it something to that Northside neighborhood about who's boss.
