Look the atom was first drawn by John Dalton which was like a shell. JJ Thompson discovered it by conducting Thomas Alva Edison's Cathode Ray experiment. He suggested that the atom was covered with electrons like pimples on someones face. Since John Dalton suggested that the atom was electrically neutral JJ Thompson proposed that The atom was positively charged with the negatively charged electron on the body of the atom. Like Pimples.
J.J. Thomson came up with the initial idea for the structure of the atom, postulating that it consisted of these negatively charged particles swimming in a sea of positive charge through his cathode ray tube experiment. His pupil, Rutherford, developed the idea and came up with the theory that the atom consisted of a positively charged nucleus surrounded by orbiting tiny negative particles, which he called electrons.

It didn't, at least today it didn't. It was huge at the time, he even got nobel award, but its to late at night to get into detail. sorry and good luck on what ever you need this for.
Yes it did help us today because if he hadn't made his then Rutherford's stundents wouldn't have made his...just sayin'.
Electron Cloud Model.

John Dalton stated "all atoms of a given element are identical"; discovery of isotopes by Thomson infirmed this old hypothesis.
He formulated his atomic model (electrons orbiting the nucleus) in 1913.
An atomic model of Dalton doesn't exist; the model of Thomson was called plum pudding model.
The Electron Cloud model

The electron cloud model best describes the organization of electrons around the nucleus of an atom.
The electron cloud model best describes the organization of electrons around the nucleus of an atom.
The electron cloud model best describes the organization of electrons around the nucleus of an atom.
The current model of an atom is called the Bohr model.
are you looking for the most recent electron orbit model or a history? There have been a few over time.
Thomson's model was the "Plum Pudding model" because it had electrons "floating" around in the ball, but Rutherford's model shows the electron shells, the nucleus, and the molecular particles: neutron, proton, and electron. Hope this helps!

A Schrodinger atomic model doesn't exist; you think probable to quantum mechanics.
