When he went to his home town to preach they tried to kill him by pushing him over a cliff but he escaped out of their midst. In the other towns of Galilee, though many were healed by him, few believed, prompting him to say of the towns:

Jesus was very popular with the masses. The poor and oppressed found hope in His sermons. Many would walk great distances just to hear Him preach. This seemed very threatening to the more influential rabbi's and priests, which is why He was condemned.

The crowds were fickle. Many loved Him early in His ministry. Many of the crowds adored the things he did: miracles, healings, food, etc. The crowds were enthusiastic on Palm Sunday, and on Good Friday were calling for His death.
