Read in The Bible the book of Luke, Chapter 2 verse 12. The babe would be wrapped in swaddling cloths ( wrapped in cloth ) from the Greek word (sparganoo) and lying in a manger ( a crib or stall ) from the Greek word (phatne). These two things would identify the baby as being Jesus Christ the Messiah and the Son of God, King of Kings. Hope this helps.

The angels voices filled the night sky, saying that the Christ had been born in David's city "And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger."(Luke 2:8-14KJV) And this is exactly what they found (Luke 2:15-18)

Well, since it was an angel sent by God, you wouldn't need to recognize the baby. Whatever the angel says through God, goes.
