They talked it over amongst themselves, and experimented. They also drew upon their experience as bicycle mechanics and riders, knowing that the ability to make slight but constant corrections in balancing a bike should be something to carry over to airplane designs. Most earlier designers concentrated on making a perfect, but static design and this was a problem in that most errors in flight start small but eventually become fatal if not corrected quickly.
