Canned food was used in the K Rations and the rations of the UK forces world wide. This allowed the troops to get protein, fruit, vegetables that were not dried and blah. However, most troops hated the Spam ham and even wrote back home to their families not to send spam. Some of the poor navy boys got spam for one straight month, particularly on the submarines.

Some people wanted to introduce a public health system, partly as a way to help to combat the illnesses caused by processed food and so called 'fast food', but the American people - mass fed on canned and processed food - used their mid-term elections to vote for the Republicans, who will veto any such plans. Many Republicans are in favour of canned food, because they see that canning is a way of controlling the population by giving them a feeling of plenty whilst delivering very little - not dissimilar to the way that one feels when opening a can of green beans which look delightful on the label, but which never fail to disappoint on opening. Finally, canning affected America in one other important way. Canning caused America to become paranoid and to believe that the rest of the world disliked that country. This was because canning symbolised America's love of using the earth's resources. The vast majority of cans are not recycled and so waste metals, just as America wastes other packaging in fast food, processed food and over-packed food. America also uses too much oil, and so devotes lots of resources to maintaining oil supplies. This causes resentments in many countries, including those in Europe, many of whose citizens feel embarrassed when they look west to the devil child that they feel that they have spawned. Apart from that, canning has not really 'impacted' America much.
