the battery died in my remote. After replacing it the auto start will not work. What are the steps I need to take to reprogram it??

Obviously your jhonson rod has become dislodged and must be reconnected before your car can start. There can be no other explanation given the level of detail you have provided.

If you have a remote that locks & unlocks your antitheft system it could be as simple as resetting your remote, I had a similar experience.

need to be inside vehicle with key in ignition, then turn key all the way to right before start 2 times while holding down unlock button at same time with door shut. then let go of unlock button. then hold both bottons on remote down tell you hear door lock and unlock if you have more then 1 remote when first remote is done do 2nd remote aright after 1st is done holding it the same with both buttons down tell you hear door lock and unlock, its now done.
The system will need to be reset or repaired. To reset a original GM system start by using the remote lock and unlock the doors. Then have a repair shop scan the computer and see if it can be reset. If that does not work it will need to see a GM dealer or qualified repair person.
