Muslims honor their dead, mainly, through the following:

  • the dead is ritually washed and clothed in a special cloth
  • the dead is carried to a mosque and the people in the mosque, in addition to his own mourners, perform special prayer for the dead asking Allah (God) to forgive him/her and bless him/her with his mercy and with accepting him in the Paradise.
  • they pray for him/her also during burial.
  • they gather at the nearest evening for condolence and to listen to Quran memorizing him.
  • they remain through all their lives praying for him/her and all other dead Muslims.

Muslims dont celebrate anyones life. But what muslims do is make a extra prayer or sacrifice and animal and thank Allah for what they have given them. for example on a birthday make dua and do extra prayer and Thank Allah for the life he has given you so far or if a child graduates from school or a man gets a promotion at work, make dua and give sadaqa thanking Allah for the sucess he has given that person. But throwing huge parties isnt Islamic as our only celebrations are the two Eids.

The dead are buried, with markers. Also, they remember them in their hearts. Maybe if they were someone important, they'd write it down in a journal somewhere.
