The oil is placed at the 2/3 rd length of the Bowling lane. It is placed in a V shape pointing towards the bowler. The more you go towards the corner, the more quantity of oil is found.
When the weight of the bowl on one side compared to the other (due to centre of gravity on the bowl) is more, the bowl will spin or swing to the heavier direction.
Most people like the centre of gravity to be slightly off the centre so that they could swing the bowl.
as long as possible I have been to many tournaments and practice really helped me when you practice make sure you keep changing lanes to get you used to adapting to different lanes.

Open bowling means that the lanes are open to the public, because currently there are lanes that are unoccupied by leagues/tournaments. There is also a term called open used when you do not get a pick up your spare. = = An open is also a type of tournament. There are 2 types of tournaments. There is an open where anyone can enter the tournament and there is an invitational where you must qualify one way or another (depending on the tournament) to play in a tournament. Either type can be a pro-am tournament where both professional and amateur bowlers can bowl. There are tournaments that only a professional can enter and some tournaments that only an amateur can enter.
Yes there is, in that they have Kegelbahn. It is like bowling but the lanes are different.
Inazawa Grand Bowl in Japan has 116 lanes.
In a regulation bowling alley, there are eight lanes. You can learn more about bowling from the Wikipedia. Once on the page, type "Bowling" or "Ten-Pin Bowling" into the search field and press enter to bring up the information.
This is only done during league bowling. It is done so that no one person gets an advantage from the oil pattern on their lane, due to the fact that they can be slightly different.
