This will vary depending on how bad the break is. Sometimes surgery is required to fix the bones back into place, but other times it might just need a cast. Casts immobilise the arm while the bones heal and they are usually on for about 4 weeks. Other times a splint or brace may be applied. Hope this helps :)

A medical person can help the fracture to mend by reducing (straightening), immobilizing (splint, cast, etc.), use of antibiotics, and prescribing temporary lifestyle adjustments (elimination of sports, extended standing, etc.).

Your body notices that the bone is broken and sends down white blood cells that analyze it then mends the bone. Casts make this easier because the bone is pushed together by it.
