Human activities contribute to climate change by causing changes in Earth's atmosphere in the amounts of greenhouse gases, aerosols (small particles), and cloudiness. The largest known contribution comes from the burning of fossil fuels, which releases carbon dioxide gas to the atmosphere.

Mostly our carbon dioxide emissions from burning fossil fuels, contribute to the 'greenhouse effect' by trapping heat energy inside Earth's biosphere. Gases such as methane, from cattle eructations (belches) and nitrous oxide from industry also contribute to global warming. Chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs from spray cans) affect the ozone layer, a helpful layer of the stratosphere which blocks the much of the harmful UV (ultraviolet) rays from the sun.

the burning of fossil fuels (oil, coal etc)

the increasing co2 emissions have slowly broken down the ozone layer and created a lot of global environmental issues, including rising sea levels and temperatures.

How has the atmosphere changed over the last 4.5 billion years?

Due to photosynthesising, single celled organisms, the atmosphere now has much more oxygen in it. this is possibly the most important change as with out we would exist. The atmosphere originally had much more carbon-dioxide and made the planet so hot humans would not be able to survive.

What are the chances of the Earth ending within 50 years?

Because the atmosphere of the Earth is what it is largely as a result of millions of years of the existence of vast forests of trees and ... coincidentally and perhaps inconveniently ... humans depend on that atmosphere for breathing purposes.
