Car stays cool at idle and slow speeds...overheats at faster ones.
--I would actually say the opposite. At faster speeds, more air would be flowing through the radiator, causing cooler temps. In slow traffic around town, you would see higher temps because your fan isn't spinning properly, and you don't have the benefit of air flowing through your radiator like you would at higher speeds.
What I know the fan won't stop when you turn of the motor.suerte
No, a bad fan clutch, as per the original, causes overheat at speed, and works fine at rest.
The clutch disconnects the fan from the pulleys at speed, so it free flows and allows air to pass through easily. When bad, the fan stays engaged, which can't spin fast enough to through air at say 50 mph, essentially acts as a BLOCK to the air, and car overheats.
That is actually just one theory of a bad clutch. yes if the clutch does not release at high speeds it will act as a block which is a stuck clutch which is only one of two clutch issues. Another clutch problem is when the clutch does not activate at idle or stop and go traffic thus not pushing air into the radiator causing a overheat. So yes you can have clutch malfunction at 50 mph and also at idle or stop and go traffic.
When can turn the fan freely with no resistense
If the clutch is bad, you would be able to hold the fan and start the car. The fan will not spin if the clutch is bad. If the clutch is good the fan spins at a high speed.
A/C fan clutch is bad. A/C fan clutch is bad.
When the engine is cold, open the hood before starting up. Try and spin the fan by hand. The fan should spin with considerable resistance. If the fan free wheels with no resistance then the fan clutch is bad. If the fan does not spin at all, the clutch is seized.
if fan make a loud noise your fan clutch is bad
over heat
Unless the fan clutch is bad just remove it with the water pump. Otherwise it is a 36mm fan clutch wrench that most auto parts stores have for rent.
I think this has an electric fan clutch. If it does then check to make sure it is bolted on good and if that isn't the case then a wobble would indicate a bad fan clutch.
They can remain locked up and sound like an airplane prop or they fail to lock up when needed causing the engine to run hot.
You can tell by how much higher the clutch pedal is to the brake pedal. when new pedals are at the same height.
does it have an electric fan? if so, it could be bad. or if not elec fan, the fan clutch. or just got a bad t'stat
If your hear "ticking" and have to use WD40
