Some DRL's can be inactivated via a fuse, others are part of the headlight switch, still others are activated by releasing the parking break on a manual transmission car. I found a tab on the back of my headlamp switch module and bent it over then taped it with electrical tape to prevent shorting out. DRL's are not required by law, and it is completely legal to operate a car without them turned on. I have been doing so for 12 years.

What would cause the daytime driving lights from working?

Some makes of cars have their lights on all the time, usually if the manufacturer is Swedish, where daytime-running-lights (or DRL) are mandated by law. If you check the cars which have lights on during the day, you'll notice they'll be Volvo, Saab or some other Nordic manufacturer.

Why do head lights stay on?

They are day time running lights. You can turn them of by pulling out the day time running light fuse. Saab manual will help you locate the fuse.

How do you shut the lights off on a 2003 Saab?

Well, if your 2003 is like mine (and all the others i assume) then they don't turn off, they're daytime running. This is kind of a pain because i feel like i went through my bulbs faster than if they did not run all the time. And then parking/brights/dash lights can be controlled with the knob to the left of the steering wheel below the air vent (as I'm sure you already know).

Disable daytime running lights on 1997 Saab 900S?

Requires a special diagnostic tool available only to Saab dealers. Take it to the Saab dealership. ...that's right. They hook it up to a computer interface of sorts and make the change. While you are at it you can have a number of other programmable changes done, related to things like adding a second remote entry key fob if you only have one. That's how I know...I bought a 2nd remote entry fob, and had the dealer reprogram the car so it would work...while at it I had him disable the daytime running lights. If you google around you can probably find out what other things you might want to change at the same time. Note about the remote key fobs: DON'T LOSE ALL OR BOTH OF YOURS. If you do, to get things "right" again, they have to replace the expen$ive security unit in the car that interfaces with the fobs. I believe I read somewhere that's about $1000! But if you have one working one, they can use it and their unit to add another. IIRC I think they charged me $50 to program the 2nd fob, and another $25 or $50 to change the running lights. Talk about being held over a barrel!

Saab Dashboard lights stay on?

What year and model? Under what conditions? The dash lights are designed to stay on in certain models. Saab 900s from about 1987 on will have dash lights come on any time the ignition switch is in the ON position, whether or not the headlight switch is turned to ON.
