first their are four wires red, black, white, green. the red is the power source. the black is your ground wire. I spliced those in to the red and black wires with the radio wires. the reason is the radio should be controled by the ignition. meaning it wont keep on pulling power from your battery all night. the white wire is for lighting the tachometer you can plug in to the dimmer switch for your dash lights. as for the green wire it is the one that counts the electric pulse every time the spark plugs fire thus giving you the RPM's. To plug in the green wire you need to open the hood and look for the powertrain plug. It is located on the passenger side of the engine compartment in the rear. It is a pretty big plug - about four inches long or so. out of the plug their are a bunch of wires taped together you need to carefuly cut the wraping with out hitting any of the wires inside. You will need to have an opening about 5 inches to get enough room to spread them out. You need to locate a yellow wire with a brown stripe. i separated it out i took a match and lit it and melted the insulation on the wire and had a bare wire spot about an inch and a half long. I wraped the green wire around it and wrapped it in electrical tape. if the green wire is not long enough you can add any kind of wire to extened it i had to do that myself so i am betting you will need to do the same. That is how I hooked my tachometer up to in my 1998 Ranger with the 2.3L.
