Herpes is spread through skin contact during intercourse and or (rarely but possible) through oral sex. Men with herpes can spread it to their partner if they have intercourse around the time a break out occurs, it's not as likely to happen but herpes can also be passed when there are no symptoms. Also some people with herpes never have signs or symptoms, if they don't know that they have it they can spread it unknowingly.
