When loading programs, press Run. If (when) an error pops up, (with a letter and number, like A1 or H2), press select and enter the appropriate code. Gamesites will label the strange symbols 1, 2, and 3 from left to right. If an error doesn't pop up, press select anyway to enter an EX code. Some programs installed via EX codes (Airshoes, Fastgauge, Antidamage, etc.) will cause bugs, while others won't.

Modtools allow you to do special stuff with your NaviCust. Like . . . shrink programs (modtools may not be required for this) by one square, which is supercool. They also allow you to install incompatible programs, by pressing select when the NaviCust runs an error. Promptly input the error code, and voila. Only one incompatible program may be installed at a time, however. Their final function is the EX codes, which allow you, assuming you have all compatible programs, to input a code for an additional program, which can't fit on the NaviCust. Powerful programs, like Airshoes, Fastgauge, and Antidamage, will cause bugs when used this way, but simpler programs like Undershirt and Sneakrun will work fine. Before pressing A when the Run command is finished, press select and input a code like you would for an error code.
