∙ 13y agoMost fossils form when organisms that die become buried in sediments. The most common fossils are molds and casts. Both copy the shape of ancient organisms (fossils are not always from dinosaurs).

∙ 13y agoAs far as I know, the most likely reason fossils are formed is due to the amounts of minerals deposited when the living organism dies. Eventually these minerals harden and become the rock like fossils we see today. Sometimes there isn't even any organic material left, just the outline of the organism in the rock fossil.
