Orangutan gestation (pregnancy) lasts about 8 1/2 months. Suffice it to say that to get pregnant, the female orangutan must be impregnated by a male orangutan the same way other primates mate. Most of the time the births will be single (twins are rare). Orangutan mothers usually give birth in their nest in the trees. The nests are constructed to accommodate the weight gained by the mother during pregnancy and to protect the newborn from falling through a crack. Infant orangutans start out at about 1.5 kg and are small enough to fit in a human palm. They are completely dependent on their mothers for some time for food, transportation and initial learning. Their arms and legs are extremely weak at birth and do not develop much muscle until they start climbing trees.
like any other primates. Mostly it will mate like humans.
They are mammals, and young Orangutans are born live from the body of the mother.
