They do not use fire in the sense that they consciously control it. Some animals have evolved to recognize fire such as the Australian fire hawk, that snatch up small prey animals escaping fires. There are legends that say these birds do pick up embers from campfires to start fires but this has not been proven. Some plants cannot reproduce without seasonal burning, such as the Long Leaf Pine in the United States. In rare cases some animals, such as easily trainable apes and monkeys have been taught to use lighters to smoke cigarettes. But these are merely tricks and this behavior was taught not learned by themselves. No where has it been proved scientifically that animals use fire in the sense that they create it and control it.
