room,outside(!), or even a refrigerator.

On a family scale, rain barrels at roof downspouts, large underground plastic tubs and, of course, many one- and five-gallon jugs for daily household use.

If you are hiking and have limited space and concerned about weight the best option of packing/storing water with you is using a Platypus style bag. The bag has a tube attached to it with a bite valve. This allows easy access to water when you are hiking. The bag is lightweight compared to bringing a plastic jug.

Depending on the area of wilderness you are in it may be possible not to store water but purify the water that is in the area. A good quality water filter will provide you with safe drinking water. Check out the area you plan on being to ensure that there will be water there before heading out.
