They don't.. most wars were either about religion or about political issues and religion was used to fire the people up.
Religion is one of the devices used to exploit people, it could also be a racial group, the country you go to, the gang you belong to.
If you don't have enough guts to believe in yourself and love yourself you follow some "leader" who sucks you in by telling you "our gang" (or religion, country, the KKK, etc) is better than "their gang" so you are a better, more important person by being in "our gang".
Don't get sucked in, religion is just another gang.
That being said, any of the "gangs" has the potential to be a constructive social group. What is required is responsible democratic leadership and members or citizens who take their responsibilities as members of that "gang" seriously.
Right now our country is in trouble because the citizens have stopped being responsible about enforcing and exercising their rights. The leaders of the "gang" in D.C. know this and are taking advantage. That's how we get into irresponsible wars. Come to think of it, we've come full circle because they are using religion to talk people into going for these wars that are bankrupting the country.
In order for this to happen, one of the goals of all religions (and those who have no religion) in the world would have to be to achieve peace. When you have one religion that encourages peace like Christianity (turn the other cheek, give to the one who asks) and another that simply wants to raise Hell like theistic Satanism, as long as there are those who do not have peace as a goal, there cannot be peace created by mankind.
By bringing ignorance about the real world around them. To give people something to think is real so that they don't have to worry about finding something to do with their lives. If you don't actually have to worry about your life, and let ignorance take over, then you've found peace.
Religions teach us about God. They teach us the basics about faith, belief and help us to trust our God. Can religions bring peace? May be yes or may be no, because religions are only a kindergarten. If we want true, everlasting peace, eternal bliss, everlasting joy, we must go beyond religion. We don't need to change our religion, but we must go to the university of spirituality. We must realize that we are not the body that suffers pain, the mind that wanders, the ego that is agonized. We can attain true peace and joy by realizing that we are the Divine Soul, we are the Spirit. By evolving on our religious journey and moving forward to realize we are the Divine Spirit, we can have peace.
no such thing Many people wish and try to bring peace in the world. If it is impossible for a single person, we may try to bring peace in our surroundings.
