A ribosome contains RNA and proteins. The following description applies to eukaryotes (plants, animals, and fungi). (The ribosomes of prokaryotes (bacteria) and mitochondria are essentially similar but differ in detail, and no nucleus is involved.)

A ribosome in eukaryotes, including humans, contains four different molecules of rRNA (ribosomal RNA) and about 80 protein molecules. The proteins are synthesized in the cytoplasm, then transported through nuclear pores into the nucleus. The rRNA molecules are synthesized directly from genes in the nucleus. The nucleolus is a region of the nucleus in which three of these rRNA genes occur.

Inside the nucleus the RNA and protein molecules are assembled into two subunits, which leave the nucleus, again through nuclear pore complexes. Once in the cytoplasm, the two subunits are combined to form the functional ribosome.

In eukaryotes, rRNA transcription and ribosome assembly take place in the nucleolus. Nascent ribosomes then exit the nucleolus and move into the cytoplasm. Multiple ribosomal proteins assemble with rRNA in the nucleolus and may facilitate proper processing of the pre-rRNA primary transcript. Additionally, a significant number of nonribosomal proteins bind to these formative ribosomes in the nucleolus and also in the nucleoplasm after the nascent ribosomal subunits leave the nucleolus. The binding of particular proteins in a prescribed order is probably necessary for nucleocytoplasmic transport of the processed ribosomal subunits

What is the link between functions of the nucleus endoplasmic reticulum and the ribosomes?

nucleolus is inside the nucleus and it makes ribosomes. Ribosomes are made up of mRNAs and proteins and it is the site for making proteins. There are ribosomes on some of the ER (endoplasmic reticulum) and so the ER is known as rough ER. As more proteins are made, they leave the rough ER via vesicles that bud off from the ER.

What organelles are involved in protein synthesis in the cell?

There are three organelles that take part in the synthesis of proteins in the cell. They are the nucleus, ribosomes, and the endoplasmic reticulum.

Are ribosomes close to the nucleus?

They are free in cytoplasm. Many attached to the rough ER

What structure is responsible for synthesizing proteins?

ribosomes are responsible for the structure of protein synthesis.

How does rough er differ from smooth er structure and function?

ER (endoplasmic reticulae) are the pathways in the cytoplasm of the cell connecting the nucleus. Smooth ER are without ribosomes on its membrane and rough ER have several ribosomes lining up the membrane. The ribosomes help in the assembly of amenoacids to form the proteins as per message received from mRNA.

What is the function in the plant cell rough ER?

Rough ER is usually found near the nucleus. Ribosomes on rough ER make many of the cell's proteins.

How does rough endoplasmic reticulum differ from the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?

Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) is a network of intracellular membranes, it links the plasma membrane and other membraneous organelles. it is involved in the production, processing, transport and storage of materials within a cell.Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER), is assosisated with ribosomes, where proteins are made.Smooth endoplasmic reticulum(SER), lacks ribosomes and is involved in the metabolism of certain compounds and synthesis of lipids.
