Like many animals that live in warmer climates, squirrels are least active during the hottest part of the day in order to avoid overheating. They will hide away in trees, burrows, dreys (their nests) in order to try to stay cool.

Most desert animals are nocturnal, meaning they are active at night when it is cooler outside. Or they stay in the shade for most of the day.
