How did the Duggar family support themselves before the reality show?

The Duggars owned some Commercial real estate, they also owned a towing company and auto-body but sold it in the 1990's and began investing in commercial real estate and traveling, making money giving talks at different Christian organizations and homeschooling conventions. They also believe in not living beyond ones means which has allowed them to set aside great deals of money and invest it. They were very wealthy even before the reality show.

His brother, John David, operates a towing business, and works closely with both his brother and dad. He lives at home to save on living and operating expenses. The Duggars belief in financial responsibility and careful planning is being followed by third children.
