Vampire squid feed on dead plankton, algae, faecal matter, shells of miniature crustaceans, and other similar decaying matter and detritus. Vampire squid collect particles of food by using two long, hair-lined filaments. They then wrap the particles into mucus balls before ingesting them.
Nobody knows for sure what they eat but these are a few examples that they have been thought/known to eat shrimp, jellylike animals, prawns plankton, and small deep sea creatures.
